Training Monday night 10th December at Brighton RFC 7.00pm
Firstly I would like to congratulate all the players that played against Surrey on Sunday and all those who have taken part in the 3 Divisional selection games. We realise it has been a difficult time with some disappointments plenty of nerves and hopefully some enjoyment .
We did lose again on Sunday but only by 12-0 , however I think everyone ( except surrey) believed we should of won , you certainly deserved too as you did against Hampshire. However please try and remember where you were last year and the massive improvements you've made , you should all give yourselves a pat on the back for what you have achieved in just 1 year.
For those that didn't get the opportunity to play in the games don't feel disheartened , you are all part of the squad ,we had to make tough decisions in the selection , othe ropportunities will present themselves for you , use the past few weeks and the disappointment positively learn for the other players and remember you are the Sussex squad possibly others played better on the day ,work on your fitness and game listen to the coaches and most of all be positive.
The moment everyone has been waiting for is the list of players who have been selected for Divisional trails , ( see below ) also the dates of the trials , any player on the list who can't make ANY of the dates must let me know ASAP, I'm sure know one will read plast the bottom of the list so I'll say everything here, for those who didn't make the trials please don't be disappointed you ALL scored well and many others were very close to the cut , but most of all remember NO player would be there if it wasn't for the WHOLE SQUAD Rugby is a team game and it took massive commitment and hard work from all of you to get anyone at the trials , I'm sure all the boys in the trials will thank you in due course and I hope the whole squad will wish the 12 boys who got through the very very best, you all gave them the opportunity now they have to do the work .
THE 12 trialists in no particular order except playing position :
Tom Walker , Dan Harris , James Kinsella , Ollie Harcus , James Tyas , Sam Twomey ,
Harry Leonard, Ben Ward, James Johnson , Jake Henry , Rob Thomson ,
Craig Holland
The first trials will be at St Albans on Sunday 2nd December , K/O 1.00pm , arrive 11.30 am , DO NOT BE LATE.
Development days 12th and 13th December at St Albans , further details to be confirmed
Final trails Sunday 16th December at St Albans further details to be confirmed.
It is extremely unlikely anyone will get into the Divsonal squad if they can not make the FINAL trials , if you can't, let me know ASAP so that another player may get the opportunity to trial.
Finally for all the boys invited to trial , take it very seriously DO not play on the Saturday , or Mid week , preferably DO not train , do light work that you feel suitable , get plenty of sleep , this is the most important day probably in your rugby career do not take it lightly you are up against the best players in London Division , do not waste the opportunity REMEMBER 50 other Sussex players put their bodes on the line to give YOU this opportunity please dont waste it , but most of all enjoy your rugby and the day.
GOOD LUCK to you all from myself, Richard, Karen and all the coaching team

2007-8 season
You will all be aware that we had an U16 trial on Sunday. 69 players attended that trial and were put through a series of drills and games to determine their suitability. All of them were told at the beginning of the day that you (the existing county squad) had set the standard. This meant to them that not only did they have to shine during the drills and games but they had to suggest to us through their performances that they were as good, if not better than you.
Of those 69 players 20 have been invited to the training sessions on the 8th and 15th of October 2007. This will make take the squad up to 73 players if all are to attend. The final squad size for the 2007 / 2008 season will be a maximum of 52. This means that after the session on the 15th the coaches will be making decisions as to who goes through. 21 players will be very disappointed but we must reduce the squad.
A decision has been made that ONLY the players and parents / guardians of the 2007 / 2008 squad will be invited to attend the South Africa tour meeting to be held on Friday the 19th of October 2007. Details of this meeting will be circulated through Ian Duffell shortly.
Kit. A number of players have requested kit forms or brochures. We are currently waiting delivery of the new kit to be on offer to you all. The kit is being supplied by Samurai and is of top rugby quality. Because we are still waiting for the delivery we can not produce the brochure or forms so please bear with us. Karen Siggs (my wife) has taken the role of Shop manager for the whole county so as soon as we have the kit you will be offered it.
There is a change of policy this year to match the new look Sussex. Instead of each team doing their own thing all Sussex Teams will have the same kit. This means that there will be a basic kit requirement for each player selected to play or be part of the county squads. This will consist of; socks, shorts and a training top. Forms will be sent to each player and you will be asked to complete it, detailing your sizes. This and a cheque or cash for £55 will be returned to team managers. Kit will then be given out at a set times as agreed by team managers.
There will of course be other kit available to buy.
Karen will be at Training on the 8th with the 2006 stock clearance kit. This would be ideal for you to stock up on training kit etc. Cash or cheques accepted.
I hope this makes sense but of course if not feel free to call myself or Ian .
This is a Divsional Year (South - East England) for the U16 squad. All games prior to Christmas are 'graded' games, where players will be assessed by Divisional selectors and then can be invited to represent South - East England. Once selected for the SE Divisional squad players will then have an oppuntunity to be selected for the England U16 squad.
